WHO WE ARE 

SMI USA Inc is a company based in Atlanta, that is part of the SMI Group, one of the world’s largest producers of bottling plants and packaging machines. SMI designs and manufactures a wide range of bottling and packaging solutions able to meet production requirements up to 50,000 bottles/hour and used in countless sectors: food & beverage, household cleaning, personal hygiene, chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
93% of the production is exported to 130 countries, where SMI operates through an extensive network of branches, agents and resellers, providing customers with technical and sales support.
SMI’s target group is extremely wide and varied, ranging from middle-sized bottlers to multinational corporations such as Coca Cola, PepsiCo, Nestlé, Danone, Unilever, AB-Inbev and many more.

BESPOKE SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY NEED

An accurate design of a complete bottling line, an appropriate sizing of machines and equipment and a smooth running of the whole system are essential factors enabling the manufacturers of the food & beverage sector (water, soft drinks, edible oil, milk, etc.) to produce efficiently, to cut production costs and to achieve a good competitive edge on the markets they are focusing on.  The design of turn-key systems is carried out by SMI by taking into consideration the most sophisticated and modern parameters in terms of machine size reduction, integration of machines or functions into multi-tasking units, ease of use, energy saving and running and maintenance cost reduction.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Environmental considerations have never been as relevant as they are today, especially in the packaging industry. Good manufacturers are aware of the packaging carbon footprint and for this reason are constantly looking at sustainable packaging solutions, that do not get lost in the environment, but are instead recycled. SMI has constantly been investing in R&D in order to test innovative packaging materials, capable of combining functionality and sustainability, and above all to develop cutting-edge solutions for processing them. Some examples are represented by rPET (the preforms made of this material are processed by SMI stretch-blow moulders and integrated blowing-filling and capping systems), ARCWISE® cardboard (worked by SMI WP and MP packers) and 100 % recycled film (processed by SMI shrink wrappers).

Blow moulders for rPET containers

SMI has been investing in R&D and made its blow moulding machines suitable for processing rPET containers. 
rPET stands out for several advantages:

• rPET products can be reused and recycled over and over again. Therefore, the need to create virgin PET is reduced
• rPET is lightweight compared to other packaging material, so transportation costs are cut and carbon footprint is reduced
• rPET plastics is safe for food and beverage packaging

Packers processing 100% recycled film

SMI shrink wrappers can process 100% recycled film. The quality of such film is as as high as the one of non-recyclable film; moreover it can be printed, thus giving brand high visibility and acting as a marketing tool. Therefore, the high quality of the pack is ensured.
 

Case packers processing Arcwise® cardboard

SMI case and multipack packers can process Arcwise® cardboard to create wrap-around boxes or cardboard clusters, that represent an advantageous choice for those companies that want to improve their environmental compatibility standards in their production. Arcwise® technology enables the design of curved packaging with unique appearance, making products stand out on the shelf.
